We're so excited to welcome Field & Forage for a relaxed, beginner-friendly workshop designed to help you confidently start your own backyard flock without feeling overwhelmed by internet rabbit holes and conflicting advice.
The workshop will be taught by Megan of Field & Forage, based in Deansboro, NY, where she raises and cares for her own flock while sharing approachable, real-life knowledge about backyard chicken keeping.
This hands-on workshop will cover the real basics of chicken keeping including coop setup, feeding, breeds, egg production, chicken behavior, winter care in New York, beginner health concerns, and what to realistically expect when starting a flock. We’ll also talk honestly about startup costs, “chicken math,” and why people somehow always end up with more chickens than they planned.
This will be an interactive experience rather than a formal lecture. Attendees will be able to see and pass around different feed and bedding samples, eggs in various colors and sizes, feathers, photos from the flock, and even meet live chicks during the workshop!
Whether you’re seriously considering chickens or just curious about the hobby, this workshop is designed to feel approachable, practical, and fun.
Each attendee will also receive a dozen farm fresh eggs from the flock, exclusive discounts from quality breeders/sellers, beginner resources, and time for open Q&A throughout the evening.
